Regular Season Round 12: WIT Wildcats - DCU Mercy 63-82

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Waterford. First ranked DCU Mercy faced 4th ranked WIT Wildcats. Guests from Dublin (11-1) smashed host WIT Wildcats (8-4) 82-63. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of WIT Wildcats. They outrebounded WIT Wildcats 46-26 including a 21-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a good game for American forward Meredith Burkhall (190-97, college: Iowa St.) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 27 points and 16 rebounds. The other American import guard Ashley Russell (178, college: Pennsylvania) contributed with a double-double by scoring 18 points, 14 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals for the winners. Four DCU Mercy players scored in double figures. American guard Maria Palarino (178, college: St.Francis, NY) replied with 8 points and 11 rebounds and the former international forward Stephanie OShea (185-91) added 14 points in the effort for WIT Wildcats. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. DCU Mercy have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 11-1 record. WIT Wildcats at the other side keep the fourth place with four games lost. They share the position with Killester. DCU Mercy will play against IT Carlow (#9) at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game. WIT Wildcats will play against 11890 Killester (#5) in Dublin and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
