There was an upset when higher ranked Omnia Basket (9-7) was edged on the road by eleventh ranked Mestre (8-9) 80-79 on Sunday. Mestre looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Omnia Basket was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. Forward Riccardo Castelli (200-88, agency: Players Group) stepped up and scored 22 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) for the winners and naturalized Croatian Dorde Malbasa (196-95, agency: SPORTlab Agency) chipped in 22 points and 5 rebounds. Mestre's coach Fabio Volpato used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. Point guard Mattia Venucci (188-90) responded with 20 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists and guard Ferdinando Nasello (195-95) scored 17 points and 7 rebounds. Four Omnia Basket players scored in double figures. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for Mestre. They moved-up to seventh place in B, which they share with 3 other teams. Loser Omnia Basket dropped to the sixth position with seven games lost. Mestre will face league's leader Tessilform Bernareggio on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
