Regular Season Round 15: Oostende - Antwerp 85-77

The biggest surprise took place in Oostende where host Oostende (10-3) beat league's leader Antwerp Giants (9-3) 85-77 on Sunday evening. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Antwerp Giants. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Oostende looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. 26 personal fouls committed by Antwerp Giants helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was Jamaican center Shevon Thompson (213-93, college: GMU) who scored 22 points and 5 rebounds. The former international swingman Loic Schwartz (197-92) chipped in 8 points and 11 rebounds. Oostende's coach Dario Gjergja used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the other side the best for losing team was Slovenian point guard Luka Rupnik (186-93) who recorded 16 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists and Senegalese Ibrahima Faye (207-97) added 14 points and 7 rebounds respectively. Four Antwerp Giants players scored in double figures. Oostende have a solid series of three victories in a row. Defending champion keeps a position of league leader. Antwerp Giants at the other side dropped to the second place with three games lost. They were replaced at the leadership position by Oostende. Antwerp Giants will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest and make it back to the top of the standings. Oostende will try to continue on its current victory against seventh ranked Kangoeroes in Mechelen.
