Regular Season Round 14: Al Arabi - Al Ahli 98-72

Date: January 19, 2020
Another interesting game was a derby match between two teams from Doha: Al Arabi (#2) and Al Ahli (#6). Al Arabi (10-2) smashed visiting Al Ahli (6-6) by 26 points 98-72. They outrebounded Al Ahli 51-30 including a 37-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. Al Arabi players were unselfish on offense dishing 27 assists. Algerian forward Mohamed Harath (198-90) notched a double-double by scoring 25 points and 17 rebounds to lead the effort and Bosnian-Serbian power forward Miroslav Todic (205-85) supported him with 23 points and 11 rebounds. Five Al Arabi players scored in double figures. Al Arabi's coach felt very confident that he used 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Even a double-double of 20 points, 12 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals by American forward Aaron Rountree-III (203-93, college: Iona) did not help to save the game for Al Ahli. His fellow American import guard Jeff Newberry (188-92, college: Oklahoma St.) added 18 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists for the guests. Al Arabi have an impressive six-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 10-2 record behind leader Al Shamal. Al Ahli at the other side keeps the sixth place with six games lost. Al Arabi's supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Doha Al Rayyan.
