There was no surprise when 12th ranked Corato (6-10) was defeated on the road by second ranked Matera (15-3) 71-66 on Sunday. However just five-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Corato was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. Point guard Lorenzo Panzini (185-90, agency: SPORTlab Agency) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 19 points, 10 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals for the winners and swingman Valerio Staffieri (196-92) chipped in 12 points. Power forward Luigi Brunetti (205-88) responded with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 11 rebounds and point guard Mauro Stella (190-84, agency: Players Group) scored 12 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. Matera maintains second place in B with 15-3 record having just one victory less than leader Benedetto CE. Loser Corato keeps the twelfth position with ten games lost. Matera will face Valmontone (#10) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Corato will play against Roma SAzzurra and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
