Regular Season Round 16: H.Jerusalem - Ashdod 72-51
Date: January 19, 2020
Very predictable result when second ranked Hapoel Jerusalem (13-2) rolled over at home bottom-ranked Maccabi Ashdod (2-14) 72-51 on Sunday. Hapoel Jerusalem held Maccabi Ashdod to an opponent 24.6 percent shooting from the field compared to 42.9 percent accuracy of the winners. They outrebounded Maccabi Ashdod 42-30 including a 34-23 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was an exceptional evening for Nigerian power forward Suleiman Braimoh (203-89, college: Rice, agency: 3Eye) who led the winners and scored 12 points and 6 rebounds. The former international point guard Tamir Blatt (187-97) accounted for 11 points and 4 assists for the winning side. Four Hapoel Jerusalem players scored in double figures. American guard Elijah Johnson (192-90, college: Kansas) came up with 9 points and 5 rebounds and the former international center Alexey Chubrevich (212-86) added 7 points and 6 rebounds respectively for Maccabi Ashdod in the defeat. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Hapoel Jerusalem maintains second place with 13-2 record having just two points less than leader Maccabi T-A. Maccabi Ashdod lost their fourth game in a row. They stay at the bottom position with 14 games lost. Hapoel Jerusalem will meet Maccabi Haifa (#6) on the road in the next round. Maccabi Ashdod will play against Hapoel Eilat (#11) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
