There was no surprise when 14th ranked CB Granada (6-12) lost to second ranked Gipuzkoa (14-4) in San Sebastian 66-70 on Sunday. However just four-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Gipuzkoa forced 20 CB Granada turnovers. Swingman Mikel Motos (193-93, college: Juaristi ISB) notched 17 points to lead the effort and American point guard Johnny Dee (183-92, college: San Diego, agency: 3Eye) supported him with 10 points and 4 assists. Four Gipuzkoa players scored in double figures. Even 20 points and 9 rebounds (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line) by the former international center Guillem Rubio (202-82) did not help to save the game for CB Granada. Power forward David Iriarte (206-95) added 10 points and 7 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Gipuzkoa maintains second position with 14-4 record behind leader Valladolid. CB Granada lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the fourteenth place with 12 games lost. They share the position with Forca Lleida. Gipuzkoa will meet Leyma Basquet (#6) in the next round. CB Granada will play against Magia Huesca (#13) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
