Very expected game when 10th ranked Palermo (5-10) lost on the road to third ranked Venezia (12-3) 75-65 on Sunday. Venezia outrebounded Palermo 46-27 including 32 on the defensive glass. It was an exceptional evening for Lithuanian power forward Gintare Petronyte (197-89) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 17 points, 14 rebounds and 4 assists. The former international forward Valeria De-Pretto (185-91, agency: LBM Management) accounted for 9 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists for the winning side. American forward Shayla Cooper (188-95, college: Ohio St.) came up with 30 points and Spanish point guard Laia Flores (171-96, college: S.Florida) added 12 points and 4 assists respectively for Palermo in the defeat. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Venezia. They maintain third place with 12-3 record having just two points less than leader Schio. Newly promoted Palermo keeps the tenth position with ten games lost. Venezia will meet Empoli (#7) on the road in the next round. Palermo will play against Torino and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
