Regular Season Round 18: CD Castro - Las Animas 81-76

There was an upset when top-ranked Las Animas (17-5) were defeated on the road by fifth ranked CD Castro (11-12) 81-76 on Monday. CD Castro made 21-of-27 free shots (77.8 percent) during the game. Argentinian guard Esteban Cantarutti (185-88) scored 30 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists (went 11 for 11 at the free throw line !!!) to lead the charge for the winners and American forward Cedric Blossom (198-94, college: Morgan St.) chipped in 21 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists during the contest. The best for the losing side was the former international guard Franco Morales (179-92) with a double-double by scoring 16 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists and American power forward Khapri Alston (198-94, college: Midwestern St.) scored 16 points and 7 rebounds. Four Las Animas players scored in double figures. CD Castro moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Puerto Montt. Loser Las Animas still keep top position with five games lost. CD Castro will face Temuco (#4) on the road in the next round. Las Animas' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Valdivia Deportivo Valdivia.
