Everything went according to plan when third ranked Thunder (27-19) outplayed 5th ranked Hawks (11-35) in Oklahoma City 140-111 on Friday. Thunder made 26-of-34 free shots (76.5 percent) during the game. Thunder had a 39-27 advantage in offensive rebounds. They shot the lights out from three sinking 14 long-distance shots on high 56.0 percentage. Thunder looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists. Hawks were plagued by 27 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a good game for Italian Danilo Gallinari (208-88) who led his team to a victory with 25 points and 6 rebounds (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line). Canadian point guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (198-98, college: Kentucky) contributed with 24 points and 6 assists for the winners. Five Thunder players scored in double figures. Guard Trae Young (188-98, college: Oklahoma) answered with a double-double by scoring 26 points and 16 assists and U.S. Virgin Islands-American John Collins (208-97, college: Wake Forest) added 28 points and 6 rebounds (on 13-of-16 shooting from the field) in the effort for Hawks. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Thunder. They maintain third place with 27-19 record behind leader Toronto R. Loser Hawks keep the fifth position with 35 games lost. Thunder will face Timberwolves (#5) in Minnesota in the next day.
