Regular Season Round 19: Wildcats - Breakers 80-79

Seventh-ranked New Zealand Breakers (11-13) were very close to win a game against second ranked Perth Wildcats (16-8) on Saturday. Perth Wildcats managed to secure only one-point victory 80-79. However their fans expected much easier game. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of New Zealand Breakers. Worth to mention a great performance of American power forward Miles Plumlee (211-88, college: Duke) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 23 points and 17 rebounds. International power forward Nick Kay (206-92, college: MSU Denver) contributed with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. Perth Wildcats' coach Trevor Gleeson used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. American forward Brandon Ashley (202-94, college: Arizona) answered with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 11 rebounds and the other American import swingman Scotty Hopson (200-89, college: Tennessee) added 13 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists in the effort for New Zealand Breakers. Five New Zealand Breakers players scored in double figures. Perth Wildcats have a solid series of three victories in a row. Defending champion maintains second place with 16-8 record having just three points less than leader Kings. New Zealand Breakers at the other side dropped to the sixth position with 13 games lost. They share it with 36ers. Perth Wildcats are looking forward to face league's leader Kings in Sydney in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. New Zealand Breakers will play on the road against Illawarra Hawks (#9) in Gwynneville and are hoping to prove to their supporters that this time they can win.
