We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Reggio Emilia where 10th ranked Cantu (8-10) was defeated by eleventh ranked Grissin Bon RE (9-10) 85-73 on Saturday. Grissin Bon RE outrebounded Cantu 44-29 including a 32-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. Worth to mention a great performance of American point guard Darius Johnson-Odom (187-89, college: Marquette) who helped to win the game recording 19 points and Israeli point guard Gal Mekel (190-88, college: Wichita St., agency: BeoBasket) who added 15 points and 5 assists during the contest. Four Grissin Bon RE players scored in double figures. Point guard Wes Clark (183-94, college: Buffalo) responded with 17 points and 4 assists and American forward Jason Burnell (201-97, college: Jacksonville St.) scored 12 points and 5 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Grissin Bon RE moved-up to ninth place, which they share with Trento and Varese. Loser Cantu dropped to the twelfth position with ten games lost. Grissin Bon RE will face higher ranked Vanoli Cremona (#6) on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Cantu will play against Umana Venezia (#7) and hope to win that game.
