Regular Season Round 21: Levallois - Monaco 80-71

The biggest surprise took place in Levallois where host Levallois (15-5) beat league's leader Monaco (17-3) 80-71 on Saturday evening. It ended at the same time the 12-game winning streak of Monaco. Levallois made 24-of-31 free shots (77.4 percent) during the game. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Levallois made 8 blocks. 27 personal fouls committed by Monaco helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was Zimbabwean power forward Vitalis Chikoko (208-91) who scored 20 points, 7 rebounds and 4 blocks (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field). American point guard Rob Gray (185-94, college: Houston) chipped in 14 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Levallois' coach Frederic Fauthoux used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the other side the best for losing team was American forward JJ OBrien (200-92, college: San Diego St.) who recorded 16 points and 5 rebounds and the former international Wilfried Yeguete (200-91, college: Florida, agency: BeoBasket) added 8 points and 10 rebounds respectively. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Levallois have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They maintain fourth place with 15-5 record. Monaco at the other side dropped to the second position with three games lost. They share it with Dijon. They were replaced at the leadership position by ASVEL. Monaco will play next round against Boulazac Basket trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Levallois will try to continue on its current victory against fourteenth ranked Entente Orleans 45 on the road.
