There was a minor upset when 9th ranked Shizuoka (11-18) was defeated on the road by eleventh ranked Gifu Swoops (7-23) 86-74 on Saturday. Gifu Swoops made 24-of-30 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Gifu Swoops made 8 blocks. It was a great evening for American forward AJ John (202-96, college: UC Davis) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 26 points, 16 rebounds and 6 assists. His fellow American import center Joe Wolfinger (214-85, college: Citadel) helped adding 18 points, 8 rebounds and 7 blocks. At the losing side forward Abu Philip (198-97) responded with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 14 rebounds and American forward Roschon Prince (198-94, college: Detroit Mercy) produced a double-double by scoring 24 points and 10 rebounds. Gifu Swoops maintains eleventh place with 7-23 record. Shizuoka lost their fourth game in a row. Newly promoted team keeps the ninth position with 18 games lost. Gifu Swoops will face again higher ranked Shizuoka (#9) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
