Regular Season Round 19: Gijon - Zamorano 58-82

Date: January 25, 2020
Everything went according to plan when seventh ranked Zamorano (10-9) outplayed on the road 10th ranked Gijon (7-12) 82-58 on Saturday. Quite impressive performance for American forward Ryan Nicholas (201-91, college: Portland) who helped to win the game recording 9 points and 9 rebounds. His fellow American import guard Bryce Canda (193-95, college: Portland St.) contributed with 12 points and 4 assists for the winners. Canda is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Zamorano players scored in double figures. Javier Menendez-Garcia (201-97, college: N.Mexico Highlands) answered with 8 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists and Nigerian-American guard Rob Ukawuba (191-94, college: NJIT, agency: The Champions Agency) added 13 points in the effort for Gijon. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Zamorano moved-up to sixth place in Silver. Loser Gijon dropped to the eleventh position with 12 games lost. Zamorano will face higher ranked Ponferrada CDP (#4) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Gijon will play against the league's second-placed Estela (#2) in Santander and hope to win that game.
