Regular Season Round 17: Peristeri GS - AEK 73-77
Date: January 25, 2020
Another exciting game was a derby match between two teams from Athens: AEK (#2) and Peristeri GS (#4). Peristeri GS was defeated at home 73-77 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Peristeri GS. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Peristeri GS won third quarter 18-17. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when AEK won last quarter 22-19. Peristeri GS was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. The former international point guard Nikolaos Zisis (197-83, agency: Octagon Europe) orchestrated the victory by scoring 18 points and 5 assists. American guard Kendrick Ray (188-94, college: Kennesaw St., agency: Pensack Sports) contributed with 11 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Angolan center Yanick Moreira (211-91, college: SMU, agency: BeoBasket) answered with 17 points and 9 rebounds and American guard Isaiah Cousins (193-94, college: Oklahoma) added 11 points and 4 assists in the effort for Peristeri GS. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. AEK (13-4) have an impressive series of twelve victories in a row. They maintain second place having just two points less than leader Panathinaikos. Peristeri GS at the other side dropped to the third position with six games lost. They share it with Promitheas. AEK will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Peristeri GS will play on the road against Lavrio and hopes to get back on the winning track.
