Everything could happen in Lugo at the game between two tied teams. Both ninth ranked Betanzos and 10th ranked Estudiantes L. had identical 4-9 record. But Estudiantes L. was not able to use a home court advantage and lost to the opponent from Betanzos 85-80 on Sunday night. Betanzos outrebounded Estudiantes L. 38-27 including 27 on the defensive glass. Estudiantes L. was plagued by 29 personal fouls down the stretch. Bosnian forward Simun Kovac (203-96, college: Concord) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 14 rebounds for the winners and center Marcos Rozas (202-83) chipped in 21 points and 10 rebounds. Betanzos' coach Ivan Villaverde used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Lithuanian point guard Titas Janusevicius (188-1) responded with 19 points, 5 assists and 4 steals and Gabriel Gomez (195-95) scored 17 points and 7 rebounds. Four Estudiantes L. players scored in double figures. The victory was the third consecutive win for Betanzos. They maintain ninth place in Group A-B with 5-9 record, which they share with Univ.Valladolid. Estudiantes L. lost their fourth game in a row. They dropped to the eleventh position with ten games lost. Betanzos will face higher ranked Fontedoso Carrefour (#3) in Avila in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Estudiantes L. will play on the road against La Antigua (#8) in Salamanca and hope to win that game.
