There was a small surprise when thirteenth ranked Santurtzi (5-11) beat on the road 11th ranked Solares (7-9) 91-76 on Sunday. Santurtzi dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Solares' 22. Santurtzi forced 21 Solares turnovers. Strangely Solares outrebounded Santurtzi 42-27 including 27 on the defensive glass. Forward Sergio Iglesias (193-92) stepped up and scored 23 points and 5 rebounds for the winners and forward Imanol Artinano (203-95, college: Alders.-Broad.) chipped in 13 points and 6 rebounds. Four Santurtzi players scored in double figures. Santurtzi's coach Miguel Angel Fernandez used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. Point guard Giovanny Contreras (180-0) responded with 16 points and 6 rebounds and British forward Connor Murtagh (196-94) scored 16 points and 6 rebounds. Santurtzi maintains thirteenth place in Group A-A with 5-11 record. Solares lost their fifth game in a row. They keep the eleventh position with nine games lost. Santurtzi will face higher ranked Easo (#3) in San Sebastian in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
