Regular Season Round 19: Naft Abadan - Toufarghan 93-87

Very predictable result when third ranked Naft Abadan (17-5) beat at home 10th ranked Toufarghan (7-14) 93-87 on Monday. However just six-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Naft Abadan outrebounded Toufarghan 49-30 including a 19-7 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. It was a great evening for the former international swingman Saeid Davarpanah (190-87, agency: Interperformances) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 19 points, 11 rebounds and 8 assists. The former international swingman Mohammad Shahrian (193-93) helped adding 21 points and 7 rebounds. Naft Abadan's coach Hemad Sameri allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. At the losing side Spanish center Gracin Bakumanya (211-97) responded with 28 points and 8 rebounds and guard Saeed Salehiyaneh (185-93) produced a double-double by scoring 11 points, 6 rebounds and 17 assists. Five Naft Abadan and four Toufarghan players scored in double figures. The victory was the third consecutive win for Naft Abadan. Defending champion maintains third place with 17-5 record having just one point less than leader Gorgan. Newly promoted Toufarghan keeps the tenth position with 14 games lost. Naft Abadan will meet Zob Ahan (#9) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Toufarghan will play against the league's second-placed Petrochimi and hope to secure a win.
