Regular Season Round 15: Haga BG - Hammarby 85-68

We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when 5th ranked Hammarby (7-5) lost to sixth ranked Haga BG (8-5) in Norrkoping 68-85 on Thursday. It was a very close game until the last quarter, when Haga BG's pressure prevailed and they won that period 27-12 extending their advantage to 17 points. They also forced 24 Hammarby turnovers and outrebounded them 46-31 including 32 on the defensive glass. Hammarby was plagued by 30 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a good game for naturalized Bosnian center Jasmin Kovacevic (210-96) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 17 points, 10 rebounds and 4 blocks. Jonathan Sjoman contributed with 13 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Guard Leonard Cooks (190-92) answered with 21 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals and forward Fredrik Bjornsson (193-91) added 13 points in the effort for Hammarby. Four Hammarby players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Haga BG moved-up to fourth place in South. Loser Hammarby keeps the fifth position with five games lost. Haga BG will face league's leader RIG Mark in Kinna in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Hammarby will play on the road against the league's second-placed Kalmar (#2) and hope to win that game.
