Seventh-ranked Exxon SC (10-11) used its home court advantage to challenge sixth ranked Mashad (15-8) in Teheran on Thursday. The visitors from Mashhad managed to secure only one-point victory 118-117. However their fans expected easier game. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Exxon SC. Mashad forced 24 Exxon SC turnovers. Strangely Exxon SC outrebounded Mashad 54-40 including a 44-27 advantage in defensive rebounds. 34 personal fouls committed by Exxon SC helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. American point guard Corin Henry (181-88, college: Tarleton St., agency: Agency) saved the victory with a double-double by scoring 59 points (!!!), 11 rebounds and 8 assists. The former international guard Emad Salmani (188-90) contributed with 25 points for the winners. Croatian forward Zoran Vrkic (203-87, agency: SDJ Sports) replied with a double-double by scoring 44 points (!!!), 10 rebounds and 6 assists and the former international swingman Ehsan Samadi (192-98) added 16 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists in the effort for Exxon SC. Four Exxon SC players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Mashad maintains sixth position with 15-8 record. Newly promoted Exxon SC keeps the seventh place with 11 games lost. Mashad are looking forward to face Shahrdari Q. (#13) in Qazvin in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Exxon SC will play on the road against Raad (#12) in Tehran and is hoping to prove to their fans that this time they can win.
