The most surprising game was a loss of top-ranked Flamengo (16-3) in Rio de Janeiro on Friday night. Hosts were defeated by sixth ranked Minas (13-6) 95-91. It ended at the same time the 13-game winning streak of Flamengo. 29 personal fouls committed by Flamengo helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Worth to mention a great performance of American power forward Devon Scott (206-94, college: Philander Smith) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 18 points and 12 rebounds and the former international guard Leandro Barbosa (190-82) who added 25 points during the contest. The former international Marquinhos Vieira (207-84) responded with 22 points and 6 rebounds and Argentinian point guard Franco Balbi (185-89) scored 15 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. Four Minas and five Flamengo players scored in double figures. Flamengo's coach Gustavo Conti rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Minas have an impressive nine-game winning streak. They moved-up to fifth place. Defending champion Flamengo still keeps top position with three games lost. Minas are looking forward to face higher ranked Sao Paulo (#3) at home in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Flamengo will play against Mogi in Mogi das Cruzes and is hoping to win this game.
