There was a small surprise when sixteenth ranked Lleida Basquet (7-13) defeated at home 13th ranked Castello (7-13) 87-80 on Friday. Lleida Basquet looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The best player for the winners was American forward Eric Stutz (203-92, college: EKU, agency: Players Group) who scored 19 points and 9 rebounds. American-Dominican Eddy Polanco (190-94, college: SE Louisiana) chipped in 18 points. Dutch forward Joey van-Zegeren (208-90, college: Northwestern) produced 16 points and 8 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) and Serbian Brano Djukanovic (194-95) added 18 points respectively for the guests. Five Lleida Basquet and four Castello players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Lleida Basquet moved-up to twelfth place, which they share with 4 other teams including defeated Castello. Castello lost fifth consecutive game. Lleida Basquet will face Oviedo CB (#15) on the road in the next round.
