Very important is a road loss of Verdes (1-1) against Defenders (2-1) on Friday night. Visiting Verdes were defeated by Defenders in a tough game in Belize City 75-83. It was an exceptional evening for American center Nigel Jones (201-90, college: Talladega) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 10 rebounds. International guard Devin Daly (195-94, college: LSSU) accounted for 17 points and 4 assists for the winning side. Jones is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. American point guard Kris Frazier (201, college: Peru St.) came up with 17 points and 8 rebounds and Thomas Thomas added 14 points and 11 rebounds respectively for Verdes in the defeat. Four Defenders and five Verdes players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Defenders will again meet at home Verdes (#4) in the next round. Verdes will have a break next round.
