Regular Season Round 12: Batumi - TSU 96-79

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of top-ranked TSU (8-3) on the court of second ranked Batumi on Saturday night. Visitors were defeated by Batumi 96-79. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of TSU. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in the league. The game was mostly controlled by Batumi. TSU managed to win third quarter 22-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Batumi made 7 blocks. Worth to mention a great performance of Serbian center Nikola Vujovic (210-93) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 18 points and 14 rebounds and American forward Collin Malcolm (201-97, college: Warner Pacific) who added 21 points and 6 rebounds during the contest. Malcolm is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Batumi's coach George Kazanjian used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was international guard Sandro Sanadze (190-95) with 20 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists and American guard David McFarland (193-96, college: SIUE) scored 20 points and 5 rebounds. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Batumi maintains second position with 7-4 record behind leader TSU, which they share with Olimpi. TSU at the other side still keeps top place with three games lost. Batumi is looking forward to face Dinamo Tbilisi (#5) at home in the next round. TSU's supporters also look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Tbilisi Mgzavrebi.
