Regular Season Round 13: Sykki - HNMKY 87-106

The most exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Helsinki: HNMKY (#5) and Sykki (#8). Sykki was crushed at home by 19 points 87-106 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. The guests trailed by 1 point after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 2-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 106-87. HNMKY forced 20 Sykki turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 29 assists. Guard Teemu Hakkarainen (190-2) fired 18 points and 5 assists for the winners. Guard Eero Laakso (185) chipped in a double-double by scoring 11 points, 5 rebounds and 10 assists. Five HNMKY players scored in double figures. Forward Mikko Savolainen (196-2) produced a double-double by scoring 26 points, 11 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals and point guard Elmo Uitto (181-2) added 31 points and 11 assists respectively for lost side. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. HNMKY (7-5) moved-up to third place, which they share with 3 other teams. Sykki lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the eighth position with nine games lost. HNMKY is looking forward to face Kataja (#5) in Joensuu in the next round. Sykki will play on the road against Westside in Espoo and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
