Regular Season Round 18: Mijas Quabit - La Zubia 66-101

Rather expected game when 8th ranked Mijas Quabit (4-11) was rolled over at home by fifth ranked La Zubia (8-8) 101-66 on Saturday. Strangely Mijas Quabit outrebounded La Zubia 39-26 including 25 on the defensive glass. They shot the lights out from three sinking 16 long-distance shots on high 55.2 percentage. The best player for the winners was David Garca (202-94) who scored 18 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. Point guard Pablo Fernandez (188-93) chipped in 16 points and 4 steals. Five La Zubia players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was center David Cespedosa (198-90) who recorded 11 points and 8 rebounds and point guard Enrique Cortes-Zotes (189-96, college: MSU Denver) added 8 points and 9 rebounds respectively. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Newly promoted La Zubia maintains fifth position in Group D-A with 8-8 record. Mijas Quabit lost fourth consecutive game. Mijas Quabit at the other side, also newcomer in the league, dropped to the ninth place with 11 games lost. La Zubia will face Cazorla (#8) at home in the next round. Mijas Quabit will play against Unicaja-Andalucia and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
