Regular Season Round 18: Valur - Stjarnan 108-78

Top ranked Stjarnan (15-3) recorded its third loss in Reykjavik on Friday night. Visitors were rolled over by eleventh ranked Valur (6-12) 108-78. It ended at the same time the 13-game winning streak of Stjarnan. The game without a history. Valur led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They shot the lights out from three sinking 18 long-distance shots on high 51.4 percentage. Valur looked well-organized offensively handing out 31 assists. The best player for the winners was the former international guard Pavel Ermolinskij (202-87) who had a double-double by scoring 26 points, 8 rebounds and 10 assists. Nigerian-American forward PJ Alawoya (203-88, college: McNeese St., agency: Inception Sports) chipped in a double-double by scoring 24 points and 13 rebounds. Alawoya is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Valur players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was American power forward Urald King (198-90, college: SE Oklahoma, agency: Duran International) who recorded a double-double by scoring 19 points and 10 rebounds and the former international power forward Hlynur Baeringsson (200-82) added 9 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists respectively. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Valur moved-up to tenth place. Stjarnan at the other side still keeps top position with three games lost. Valur are looking forward to face higher ranked Grindavik (#8) at home in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Stjarnan will play against Thor AK (#11) and is hoping to win this game.
