Regular Season Round 21: Minas - Sao Paulo 85-87

The most exciting game of round 21 in the NBB took place in Belo Horizonte. This derby game ended with only two-point home defeat of 5th ranked Minas (13-7) to fourth ranked Sao Paulo (16-6) 87-85 on Friday evening. It ended at the same time the nine-game winning streak of Minas. The best player for the winners was naturalized American Shamell Stallworth (195-80, college: USF) who scored 27 points and 6 rebounds. The former international point guard Georginho de-Paula (195-96) chipped in a double-double by scoring 10 points, 9 rebounds and 11 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was the former international guard Leandro Barbosa (190-82) who recorded 21 points and 4 assists and international guard Alex Garcia (191-80, agency: Interperformances) added 16 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists respectively. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Minas' coach Leonardo Costa rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Sao Paulo moved-up to third place. Minas at the other side keeps the fifth position with seven games lost. Sao Paulo will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Minas will play at home against Mogi (#4) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
