Regular Season Round 3: Belize City D. - Smart Belize H. 83-67
Date: February 7, 2020
Another interesting game was a derby match between two teams from Belize City: Defenders (#2) and Hurricanes (#6). Defenders (3-1) smashed visiting Hurricanes (1-2) by 16 points 83-67. The winners were led by American center Nigel Jones (201-90, college: Talladega) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 22 points and 16 rebounds and international guard Devin Daly (195-94, college: LSSU) supported him with 21 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Jones is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Defenders players scored in double figures. Even a double-double of 19 points and 10 rebounds by American forward Jamell Harris (206-91, college: EMU) did not help to save the game for Hurricanes. The former international forward Alex Carcamo (200-77, college: EWU) added 15 points and 7 rebounds for lost side. Hurricanes' coach rotated ten players seeing no chance for a win. Defenders have a solid three-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with San Pedro T. Hurricanes at the other side dropped to the bottom place with two games lost. They share the position with 4 other teams. Defenders will play against Panthers (#7) in the next round where they are favorite. Hurricanes will play against Verdes to get more than just one victory in their record.
