Regular Season Round 17: Granada - Unicaja 74-78

There was no surprise when 10th ranked Granada (6-10) was defeated at home by fourth ranked Unicaja (11-6) 78-74 on Saturday. Power forward Veronica Matoso (185-88) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 16 rebounds for the winners and Mexican-American guard Angela Rodriguez (173-91, college: Milwaukee) chipped in 17 points. Point guard Andrea Alcantara (171-99) responded with 24 points and Trinidad and Tobago-Vincentian center Verdine Warner (196-92, college: Shaw) produced a double-double by scoring 12 points and 11 rebounds. Four Granada players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Newly promoted Unicaja maintains fourth place in Group B with 11-6 record. Loser Granada keeps the tenth position with ten games lost. Unicaja will face Almeria (#8) on the road in the next round. Granada will play against the league's second-placed Ardoi and hope to win that game.
