Regular Season Round 21: Gijon - Algeciras 63-78

Everything went according to plan when eighth ranked Algeciras (10-11) won against on the road 11th ranked Gijon (8-13) 78-63 on Saturday. Algeciras dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Gijon's 30. The best player for the winners was Senegalese center Serigne Barro (208-95) who had a double-double by scoring 22 points and 12 rebounds (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field). American forward Andrew Kelly (201-91, college: Alaska-Fairb.) chipped in 14 points and 6 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field). At the other side the best for losing team was Jamaican-Canadian guard Jamal Reynolds (193-94, college: Canisius) who recorded a double-double by scoring 13 points and 12 rebounds and power forward Carlos Poyatos (207-94) added 9 points and 8 rebounds respectively. Five Algeciras and four Gijon players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Newly promoted Algeciras maintains eighth place in Silver with 10-11 record. Loser Gijon keeps the eleventh position with 13 games lost. Algeciras will face higher ranked Ponferrada CDP (#4) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Gijon will play against the league's leader UBU Tizona (#1) where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
