Regular Season Round 20: Haukar - Valur 69-75

The game between Top Four teams took place in Hafnarfjordur. 3rd ranked host Haukar (13-7) lost to first ranked Valur (18-2) 75-69. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Haukar. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Haukar won third quarter 23-20. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Valur dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Haukar's 26. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 24 assists. The winners were led by American guard Kiana Johnson (171-93, college: Virginia Union) who scored that evening 15 points, 8 rebounds and 9 assists and the former international swingman Helena Sverrisdottir (184-88, college: TCU) supported her with 13 points, 9 rebounds, 9 assists and 4 steals. Four Valur players scored in double figures. Even 26 points and 8 rebounds by American guard Randi Brown (170-96, college: New Orleans) did not help to save the game for Haukar. International point guard Thora Jonsdottir (171-97) added 11 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists for the hosts. Valur have an impressive seven-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 18-2 record. Haukar at the other side keeps the third place with seven games lost. Valur will play against Skallagrimur (#4) in Borganes in the next round. Haukar will play on the road against the league's second-placed KR in Reykjavik and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
