Regular Season Round 109: Atlanta H. - New York K. 140-135

There was a small surprise when fifth ranked Hawks (15-39) beat their close opponent Knicks (17-37) in Atlanta 140-135 on Sunday. Hawks made 28-of-31 free shots (90.3 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 29 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Hawks made 8 blocks. Knicks were plagued by 29 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a very good performance for guard Trae Young (188-98, college: Oklahoma) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 48 points (!!!) and 13 assists (made all of his sixteen free throws !!!). U.S. Virgin Islands-American John Collins (208-97, college: Wake Forest) contributed with a double-double by scoring 32 points and 16 rebounds for the winners. Forward Julius Randle (206-94, college: Kentucky) answered with a double-double by scoring 35 points (!!!) and 18 rebounds and guard Reggie Bullock (201-91, college: UNC) added 21 points in the effort for Knicks. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Hawks maintains fifth place with 15-39 record which they share with defeated Knicks. Loser Knicks keep the fifth position with 37 games lost. Hawks will face league's second-placed Magic in Orlando in the next day and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
