Regular Season Round 19: Leon - Zamora 83-92

We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when 13th ranked Leon (3-13) lost at home to fourteenth ranked Zamora (3-13) 92-83 on Sunday. Zamora made 25-of-31 free shots (80.6 percent) during the game. Leon was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a very good performance for point guard Kilian Riverol (175-95) who helped to win the game recording 33 points (!!!), 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Gambian Alasan Mbowe (203-0) contributed with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. American forward Billy McDonald (198-94, college: Caldwell) answered with 38 points (!!!) and Swedish forward Musa Jeng (202-99) added 15 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists in the effort for Leon. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Leon's coach Julio Gonzalez let to play ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Zamora moved-up to thirteenth place in Group A-B, which they share with defeated Leon. Leon lost their ninth game in a row. Zamora will face higher ranked Xiria (#11) in Carballo in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Leon will play on the road against Gijon Basket and hope to win that game.
