The game between closely ranked teams ended with fifth ranked Kumamoto V.'s (16-25) road victory over 6th ranked Fukuoka R. (11-30) 93-86 on Sunday. Kumamoto V. looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. Fukuoka R. was plagued by 29 personal fouls down the stretch. American forward Marqus Blakely (201-88, college: Vermont) stepped up and scored 35 points (!!!), 8 rebounds and 7 assists for the winners and his fellow American import power forward Gavin Ware (206-93, college: Mississippi St.) chipped in 25 points and 15 rebounds (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field). Nigerian-American power forward Gani Lawal (206-88, college: Georgia Tech, agency: PEPI SPORT) responded with 24 points and 9 rebounds and Spanish center David Doblas (209-81) produced a double-double by scoring 14 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Fukuoka R.'s coach Iurgi Caminos rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Kumamoto V. maintains fifth place with 16-25 record. Fukuoka R. lost their third game in a row. They keep the sixth position with 30 games lost. Kumamoto V. will face higher ranked Tokyo EX (#4) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Fukuoka R. will play against the league's second-placed Gunma and hope to win that game.
