Regular Season Round 14: DCU Mercy - Fr.Mathews 96-71

Super League top team - DCU Mercy (13-1) had no problems winning another game on Sunday. This time they crushed sixth ranked Fr.Mathews (8-6) in Dublin 96-71. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Fr.Mathews. DCU Mercy dominated down low during the game scoring 78 of its points in the paint compared to Fr.Mathews' 50. DCU Mercy forced 22 Fr.Mathews turnovers and outrebounded them 42-29 including 29 on the defensive glass. American forward Meredith Burkhall (190-97, college: Iowa St.) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!) and 14 rebounds. The former international guard Sarah Woods (174-88) contributed with 21 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. DCU Mercy's coach felt very confident using 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American forward Shannon Brady (183, college: Bowdoin) replied with 28 points and 5 rebounds (on 13-of-17 shooting from the field) and the former international forward Grainne Dwyer (182-84) added 21 points and 9 rebounds in the effort for Fr.Mathews. DCU Mercy have an impressive six-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 13-1 record. Defending champion Fr.Mathews dropped to the fifth place with six games lost. They share the position with WIT Wildcats. DCU Mercy's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Dublin 11890 Killester.
