Regular Season Round 23: Chalon - ASVEL 66-54

There was no surprise when 8th ranked ASVEL (11-10) was defeated on the road by fifth ranked Chalon (14-8) 66-54. Chalon dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to ASVEL's 28. They brought some defensive toughness making 8 blocks. Swingman Babacar Niasse (193-0) orchestrated the victory by scoring 22 points and 6 rebounds. Quentin Diboundje-Eyobo (194-2) contributed with 9 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Guard Marcus Gomis (187-0) answered with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 10 rebounds and Senegalese center Babacar Fam (203-0) added 6 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for ASVEL. ASVEL's coach Anthony Brossard tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. The victory was the third consecutive win for Chalon. They maintain fifth place with 14-8 record. ASVEL at the other side dropped to the ninth position with ten games lost. Chalon's next round opponent will be league's leader Cholet on the road and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. ASVEL will play against Monaco (#17) and hope to win that game.
