Regular Season Round 15: London L. - Sudbury F. 116-117

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of top-ranked London Lightning (12-5) at the home court on Thursday night. Hosts were edged by second ranked Sudbury F. (9-6) 117-116. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of London Lightning. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in the league. Sudbury F. made 25-of-31 free shots (80.6 percent) during the game. Strangely London Lightning outrebounded Sudbury F. 53-37 including a 38-26 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. 28 personal fouls committed by London Lightning helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Americans were the main players on the court. It was a great evening for forward Marlon Johnson (208-94, college: N.Mexico Highlands) who led his team to a victory scoring 36 points (!!!) and 7 rebounds. Forward Dexter Williams (193, college: Montana-West) helped adding 23 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists (went 9 for 9 at the free throw line !!!). The best for the losing side was guard Marcus Capers (193-89, college: WSU, agency: Interperformances) with a double-double by scoring 22 points, 12 rebounds and 9 assists and center Randy Phillips (203-95, college: Radford) scored 32 points and 5 rebounds (on 13-of-17 shooting from the field). Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Sudbury F. have an impressive series of six victories in a row. They maintain second place with 9-6 record having five points less than leader Moncton M. London Lightning at the other side still keeps top position with five games lost. Sudbury F. are looking forward to face league's second-placed St.John's E. in St. John's in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. London Lightning will play at home against Titans and is hoping to win this game.
