Regular Season Round 25: SOPCC - Besancon 104-87

There was no surprise when 11th ranked Besancon (7-18) lost to third ranked SOPCC (18-7) in Pont de Cheruy 87-104 on Friday. SOPCC outrebounded Besancon 47-25 including a 20-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. Besancon was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a very good performance for forward Lionel Gaudoux (198-95) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 16 points and 15 rebounds. Spanish Ousseynou Laye-Basse (210-92) contributed with 21 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. SOPCC's coach Moatassil Rhennam used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to get some rest. British-Canadian forward Jermel Kennedy (201-89, college: Lander) answered with 17 points, 7 rebounds and 9 assists and guard Corentin Lopez (193-97) added 14 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Besancon. Five SOPCC and four Besancon players scored in double figures. Newly promoted SOPCC maintains third place in Group B with 18-7 record having just one point less than leader Angers. Loser Besancon keeps the eleventh position with 18 games lost. SOPCC will face league's leader C'Chartres on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Besancon will play against the league's second-placed Saint Vallier (#2) and hope to win that game.
