Regular Season Round 42: Yamagata - Hiroshima D. 82-84

Sixth-ranked Yamagata (8-34) made lots of trouble for first ranked Dragonflies (35-7) on Saturday. The visitors from Hiroshima managed to secure only two-point victory 84-82. However their fans expected much easier game. Dragonflies looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. The best player for the winners was Venezuelan center Gregory Echenique (206-90, college: Creighton, agency: Pensack Sports) who scored 31 points and 8 rebounds (went 9 for 9 at the free throw line !!!). American forward Thomas Kennedy (201-87, college: Detroit Mercy) chipped in a double-double by scoring 15 points, 10 rebounds and 8 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was Hungarian forward Gyorgy Goloman (211-96, college: UCLA) who recorded a double-double by scoring 20 points and 12 rebounds and guard Hiroki Furuhashi (185-92) added 19 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists respectively. Four Dragonflies and five Yamagata players scored in double figures. Yamagata's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Dragonflies have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 35-7 record. Yamagata lost eleventh consecutive game. They keep the sixth place with 34 games lost. Dragonflies will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Yamagata will play again at home against the league's leader Dragonflies (#1) and is hoping to prove to their fans that they can break losing series.
