Very predictable result when fifth ranked Gijon Basket (10-7) defeated at home 14th ranked Leon (3-14) 89-76 on Saturday. Strangely Leon outrebounded Gijon Basket 44-30 including 32 on the defensive glass. Worth to mention a great performance of forward Fernando Fernandez (201-89, college: Hannibal-LG, agency: Dynamics Global Management) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 31 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists and guard Alejandro Rubiera (190-98) who added 19 points during the contest. Swedish forward Musa Jeng (202-99) responded with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 19 rebounds and American forward Billy McDonald (198-94, college: Caldwell) scored 37 points (!!!). Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Gijon Basket maintains fifth position in Group A-B with 10-7 record, which they share with Obradoiro S. Leon lost tenth consecutive game. They keep the fourteenth place with 14 games lost. Gijon Basket will face Xiria (#11) in Carballo in the next round where they are favorite. Leon will play at home against the league's second-placed Chantada and hope to win that game.
