Regular Season Round 17: Niki Lefkadas - Chania 78-80

The most exciting game of round 17 in the A1 took place in Lefkadas. This derby game ended with only two-point home defeat of 6th ranked Niki Lefkadas (7-10) to fourth ranked Chania (11-6) 80-78 on Sunday evening. Chania forced 21 Niki Lefkadas turnovers. American forward Miranda Drummond (185, college: Syracuse, agency: LBM Management) stepped up and scored 32 points and 9 rebounds for the winners and guard Eutuhia Dermitzaki (-2) chipped in 18 points, 7 rebounds and 10 assists. Four Chania players scored in double figures. American forward Rangie Bessard (185-96, college: Wichita St.) responded with a double-double by scoring 42 points (!!!), 14 rebounds and 5 assists and the other American import center Shelby Cheslek (196-92, college: Gonzaga) produced a double-double by scoring 10 points, 18 rebounds and 4 assists. Newly promoted Chania maintains fourth place with 11-6 record. Niki Lefkadas at the other side keeps the sixth position with ten games lost. They share it with Esperides. Chania are looking forward to face Esperides (#6) in Glyfada in the next round. Niki Lefkadas will play on the road against Sporting in Athens and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
