There was a small surprise when tenth ranked Palermo (7-12) defeated at home 8th ranked Vigarano (8-11) 99-88 on Sunday. Palermo made 22-of-25 free shots (88.0 percent) during the game. Palermo had a 28-17 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists comparing to just 12 passes made by Vigarano's players. American forward Shayla Cooper (188-95, college: Ohio St.) fired a double-double by scoring 30 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. American-Montenegrin center Markeisha Gatling (196-92, college: NC State) chipped in 29 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists (on 13-of-16 shooting from the field). The former international guard Sara Bocchetti (175-93, agency: LBM Management) produced 25 points and 7 rebounds and forward Maria Miccoli (182-95) added 20 points respectively for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Newly promoted Palermo maintains tenth place with 7-12 record. Loser Vigarano dropped to the seventh position with 11 games lost. They share it with Broni and Empoli. Palermo will meet league's leader Schio on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Vigarano will play against Ragusa (#3) and hope to secure a win.
