Regular Season Round 16: Talsu NSS - Ventspils Spars 85-92

Date: February 18, 2020
The most surprising game was the first loss of undefeated Talsu NSS (8-1) at the home court on Tuesday night. Hosts were defeated by fifth ranked Ventspils Spars (7-5) 92-85. It ended at the same time the eight-game winning streak of Talsu NSS. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 27-18. But Talsu NSS won second period 25-22. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. It was a great evening for point guard Ricards Vitolskis (185-1) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 31 points and 14 rebounds. Guard Toms Stupele (183-1) helped adding 27 points. Ventspils Spars' coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was center Henriks Bajars (213-2) with a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!), 21 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 blocks (on 13-of-17 shooting from the field) and guard Niks Grosbahs (175-2) produced a triple-double by scoring 11 points, 10 rebounds, 13 assists and 5 steals. Four Talsu NSS players scored in double figures. Ventspils Spars have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain fifth place with 7-5 record. Talsu NSS at the other side still keeps top position with one game lost. Ventspils Spars are looking forward to face Talsu NSS 2 (#11) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Talsu NSS will play against Riga/Pard. (#7) and is hoping to win this game.
