Regular Season Round 17: Shockers - Defenders 121-74

Another exciting game was again a derby match of two local teams from Nassau: Shockers (#3) and Defenders (#5). Shockers (9-5) crushed visiting Defenders (2-13) by 47 points 121-74. Shockers dominated down low during the game scoring 76 of its points in the paint compared to Defenders' 42 and made 21-of-26 free shots (80.8 percent) during the game. Shockers forced 32 Defenders turnovers and outrebounded them 61-49 including 22 on the offensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 32 assists comparing to just 19 passes made by Defenders' players. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Shockers made 7 blocks. Center Shamir Rolle (198, college: Freed-Hardeman) nailed a double-double by scoring 24 points and 21 rebounds for the winning side and William Rigby accounted for 21 points, 7 assists and 4 steals. Five Shockers players scored in double figures. Shockers' coach felt very confident that he used 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Clayton Tucker came up with a double-double by scoring 26 points and 12 rebounds (was perfect 13-for-13 from the free throw line !!!) and Paul Caridice added 16 points and 10 rebounds respectively for Defenders in the defeat. Shockers maintains third place with 9-5 record having three points less than leader Rockets. Loser Defenders keep the fifth position with 13 games lost.
