Regular Season Round 19: Granada - Almeria 58-70

There was no surprise when 10th ranked Granada (6-12) lost at home to eighth ranked Almeria (9-10) 70-58 on Saturday. Almeria forced 20 Granada turnovers. They shot the lights out from three sinking 12 long-distance shots on high 63.2 percentage. It was a very good performance for point guard Isabel Latorre (170-96) who helped to win the game recording 21 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Power forward Alicia Gonzalez (187-86) contributed with 16 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Trinidad and Tobago-Vincentian center Verdine Warner (196-92, college: Shaw) answered with 17 points and 7 rebounds and forward Maria Royo (178-86) added 9 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for Granada. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Almeria moved-up to seventh place in Group B, which they share with Girona. Granada lost their third game in a row. They keep the tenth position with 12 games lost. Almeria will face UCAM Jairis (#9) in Alcantarilla in the next round. Granada will play on the road against Picken Claret in Valencia and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
