Very predictable result when third ranked Gran Canaria (14-4) rolled over on the road 13th ranked Mataro Parc (5-14) 97-69 on Saturday. Gran Canaria dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Mataro Parc's 30. They outrebounded Mataro Parc 39-18 including a 29-14 advantage in defensive rebounds. Mataro Parc was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. Quite impressive performance for American guard Sparkle Taylor (178-95, college: UTEP) who helped to win the game recording 32 points and 6 rebounds. Mali power forward Sika Kone (190-2) contributed with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 13 rebounds for the winners. Four Gran Canaria players scored in double figures. German guard Alina Hartmann (183-95, college: Colorado, agency: Scorers 1st Sportmanagement) answered with 25 points and 6 rebounds and forward Mireia Vila (183-91, college: St.Joseph's) added 6 points and 5 assists in the effort for Mataro Parc. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Gran Canaria maintains third place in Group B with 14-4 record having five points less than leader Estudiantes. Mataro Parc lost their third game in a row. They dropped to the twelfth position with 14 games lost. Gran Canaria will face Lima-Horta (#5) in Barcelona in the next round. Mataro Parc will play against the league's second-placed Ardoi (#2) and hope to win that game.
