Regular Season Round 9: Wings - Zaza 82-85

The most exciting game of round 9 in the U18 League took place in Tbilisi. This derby game ended with only three-point home defeat of 6th ranked Wings (4-5) to second ranked Zaza (7-1) 85-82 on Tuesday evening. The guests were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. Zaza dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Wings' 36. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Zaza made 7 blocks. Point guard Luka Qutidze (177-2) stepped up and scored 19 points, 8 rebounds, 9 assists and 4 steals for the winners and point guard Nikoloz Buachidze (182-3) chipped in 11 points and 10 rebounds. The best for the losing side was forward Bachi Alibegashvili (195-2) with a double-double by scoring 26 points and 17 rebounds and forward Giorgi Lebanidze (186-2) scored 18 points and 7 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Zaza have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain second place with 7-1 record behind leader Dinamo. Wings at the other side keep the sixth position with five games lost. They share it with Kutaisi and Rustavi. Zaza are looking forward to face Kutaisi (#7) at home in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Wings will have a break next round.
