Regular Season Round 17: Celje - Montana 69-47

Round in WABA means a new league leader. The biggest surprise took place in Celje where host Slovenian Celje (13-3) crushed league's leader Bulgarian Montana 2003 (13-4) 69-47 on Wednesday evening. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The game was mostly controlled by Celje. Montana 2003 managed to win third quarter 18-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Celje dominated down low during the game scoring 46 of its points in the paint compared to Montana 2003's 20. Celje forced 23 Montana 2003 turnovers and outrebounded them 44-24 including a 30-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was Swedish guard Paulina Hersler (190-94, college: Florida) who scored 14 points and 7 rebounds. American guard Taeler Deer (165-96, college: Texas St.) chipped in 11 points and 8 assists. Four Celje players scored in double figures. Celje's coach felt very confident using 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Bosnian-Croatian guard Matea Tavic (178-92) produced 14 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists and Slovenian center Tina Trebec (190-90, agency: LBM Management) added 12 points and 6 rebounds respectively for the guests. Defending Slovenian champion keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Beroe. Defending Bulgarian champion Montana 2003 dropped to the third place with four games lost. They were replaced at the leadership position by Celje. There is only one round left in the Regular Season. And it will be most important game for Montana 2003 this season. They will face strong Buducnost trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Celje will try to continue on its current victory against second ranked Beroe in Stara Zagora.
